MENTAL

For this project, I was hired by a production team and director to conceptualize, model, and detail the creation of a set design sculpture that would be pivotal in the narrative of the film.

The story follows the short tale of a young man who struggles with cognitive dissonance going through the motions of what is expected of him and what he truly desires to pursue in his life. These contradicting thoughts are expressed cinematically as scintillating flashes and bolts of light that emanate through the different interior cavities of the translucent brain.

Technically this was a challenging problem to solve as I needed to expedite a way of identifying and organizing the numerous layers involved in building up the form of the sculpture and have the voids within latticed to receive the addressable fiber optic LEDs. The solution was a custom parametric tool created for the use of 'previewing' the final form to ensure manufacturability and functionality.
