INTERVISIBLE DESIGN
UNIVERSAL STUDIOS HQ SPHERE
For this permanent sculptural art installation I was hired as a technical designer in collaboration with Pink Sparrow to develop all the technical aspects required to fabricate and assemble the object. The final destination for this sculpture would live in the newly constructed HQ building of Universal Studios in their main entrance lobby. The installation consists of 1000+ archival photographs sourced from the Universal Studios repository that would be printed on reflective cards and printed with dye-sublimated ink, creating a 12’ spherical cloud of juxtaposed images and ever-changing dynamic qualities of light. To accomplish this task, I employed numerous parametric modeling techniques using Rhino, Grasshopper, and Python to explore different variations of sphere sizes and densities before landing on a final iteration. To further pitch the proposal, I used real-time rendering techniques to create animated visualizations of what the piece would look like in-situ and how it would be suspended from the ceiling. Lastly, I was tasked with creating all construction documents related to the assembly process and how it would be fabricated.
